Preliminary work is in progress, both in the areas covered by the project in Italy and the Canary Islands, on insulating electrical power lines with the aim of mitigating the risk of electrocution for Egyptian Vultures and other bird species.
Following the release of Bianca and Clara in the southern Italian region of Basilicata in August 2018, it was possible to set-up a network of public bodies, associations, ornithologists and enthusiasts who monitored the progress of the two birds, in some cases, observing and leaving food out for them during the course of their migration.
The young Egyptian vulture, who departed from the Basilicata region in the south of Italy on the 3rd September, 2018, reached Tunisia on the 12th September only to die the following day in the Sfax governorship, in the central-eastern part of the country.
Clara, the young Egyptian vulture released in the Murgia Materana Natural Park in August 2018, has been shot and killed in the area around Mazara del Vallo (province of Trapani), in south-west Sicily. Her body, containing 7 shotgun pellets, was discovered on the 11th of September.
